Raksha Bandhan Story In Hindu Mythology

Hindu Mythology is as vast as an ocean and has lessons for every single thing we face in our daily life. You won’t even imagine the stories of famous brothers and sisters from our authentic history.
There have been brothers who have stood for their sisters against every odd, and there have been a few who have made their sisters lives miserable. Now, let’s know these hidden tales pulled out from gone times.

Krishna and Draupadi

The relationship of Lord Krishna and Draupadi is something which cannot be explained, a relationship which has no name but is one of the most respectful existence. They call each other ‘Sakhi’ which means best friends but then it Worth’s a respect much more than that. The relationship which cannot be named and can only be respected!
Once Lord Krishna cut his little finger and was bleeding profusely. Seeing this, Rukmani (his wife) sent her help to get a bandage cloth while Sathyabama (his other consort) rushed to bring some cloth herself. Draupadi who was watching all of this rather simply tore off a part of her sari and bandaged his finger.
This piece of sari later became endless and saved her from the embarrassment of being disrobed (vastraharan), in front of many people in King Dhritarashtra’s court. Hence, Lord Krishna kept his promise of saving her when in a problem. This is what a brother’s duties are to his sister.

Lord Vishnu and Sati

Parvati grew up with the hope of marrying Shiva but Shiva refused to accept her as his consort due to the loss of his love Sati. Parvati took to severe austerities in order to purify her senses, activate her chakras so that she could become eligible to marry the Lord. To help her reach her goal, Lord Vishnu asked her to tie a rakhi on his wrist, so that as her brother he could remove all obstacles coming her way. Legend has it, that for Shiva and Parvati’s celestial marriage, Lord Vishnu performed all the ceremonies that are supposed to be done by the bride’s brother

Yama and Yamuna

The Yamuna is said to be immortal and was granted this boon by his twin brother Yama – the lord of death! It is said that Yamuna had once tied a rakhi to Lord Yama to show her love and care for him, which made the God happy.

Ganesha and Manasa

Manasa is said to be the daughter of Lord Shiva who had taken birth from his semen. Once Manasa had come to tie a rakhi to Lord Ganesha which made Ganesha’s sons – Shubha and Labha – inquisitive to have a sister. Respecting their demand Lord Ganesha gave rise to Goddess Santoshi from the flames with the help of his consorts — Ridhi and Sidhi.

Goddess Laxmi and King Bali

They were not brother and sister by birth but did respect the relationship and shared a similar feeling for each other.
As part of a promise, Lord Vishnu has been protecting his devotee and the demon King Bali, disguising himself as his doorman. This kept his consort Goddess Laxmi away from his husband and hence she came to take shelter at Bali’s kingdom in disguise. Once on the full moon day in the holy month of Shravana, Laxmi ties a thread of colored cotton on Bali’s wrist and wishes for protection and happiness. In return Bali fulfills her wish to take her husband back. He then comes to know about both their identities and pays tribute to them. To know more....
