KARTIKA PURNIMA 2017 - One Day Gala

Kartika Purnima- the last day of the holiest month ‘Kartika’  is one of the holiest and the most divine months according to the Hindu calendar- ‘Vikram Samvant’. During the month of Kartika, devotees come a long way and take a both to rouse themselves in its pious water before sunrise. People gather on the bank of the river-  ‘Ganga’  or any of the holy rivers along with their family members to express their gratitude and devotion towards Sun God (Lord Surya).They perform various rituals and customs by offering water to Sun as the festivities begin on the day of ‘Sharad Purnima’ and ends on ‘Kartika Purnima’. Despite the fact that on Chhath Pooja; Devotees offer devotion by observing a strict Fast for 36 hours. However, these festivities are also pre-eminent and well known for some of its mouths- watering ‘bonne bouche’. Here is a list of Chhath Puja recipes; Lal Saag Ingredients: A bunch of Lal Saag Red chili - 1 or 2 whole Turmeric -1/3 teaspoon Ginger (1/2') - chopped finely Salt - to taste. Cooking oil - 1 teaspoon Method: Clean the leaves remove the hard stalks and chop the saag roughly. Heat oil in a pan; add ginger and red chili. Saute the ingredients on a medium flame for a few minutes. Now add chopped lal saag and sauté for a couple of minutes. Turn the heat to low flame, add turmeric and add well. Now cover the lid and cook for at least 10 minutes. Keep checking in between and if found sticky and dry, add a little water. Now add salt to taste, sauté for a minute. History of Chhath Puja

The origin of Chhath Puja is not clear and ambiguous. As it is believed to be originated from Vedas, Epic Mahabharata, and Ramayana. It was also believed that it has Legend of King named Priyabrat and his wife Malini blessed with a beautiful baby boy and they started worshipping Chhathi Maiya (Shashti Goddess) and celebrating Chhath Puja.  Day 1 - Nahay Khay Auspicious Time Tithi: Chaturthi Sunrise at 05:43 Sunset at 16:57 The word ‘Nahaya’ refers to bath and ‘khaya’ refers to eating. People first brush their teeth with mango twigs. Then they go to a holy water body like river Ganga and take a bath. Some of the holy water is brought home. With that water, Prasad for Lord Surya is prepared.
