What is Mahavir Jayanti?

Mahavir Jayanti is popularly known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak and is one of the renowned JAIN festivals commemorated in Jainism Community. Mahavir Jayanti would fall on Thursday, 29 March in 2018. This illustrious gaiety is the most important Jain festival and occurs in March or April Month. It is served as the major occasion among Indians and observed as the most important religious holiday in India. The birth of Saint Mahavira is solemnized in the various States of India with a great passion and gusto. This distinguished celebration takes place every year by folks in different parts of the country. It is a peaceful religion that cherishes simplicity.

It is a major Festivity celebrated among Jain People in all over India and in other parts of the world too. Mahavira was well-known with the name- Vardhamana as well among his admirers. Who was Saint Mahavir?

As per the Mythology, Saint Mahavir took birth on the 13th day of the rising moon of Chaitra. He was born in a very small town in India named as- Vaishali in Kshatriyakund (at present in Bihar) in 599 BCE.

This noteworthy day celebrates the birth of Mahavira, who is famed as- the last “Tirthankara”. According to Jain Ideology, He was also the twenty-fourth saint and was worshipped as a divine God among Jain folks. He was an eminent luminary who admires the simplicity and followed the path of Simple Living and High Thinking.

Being one of the simplest and the humblest Saints, he always believed in these words - The Happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts. Mahavir was the founder of the Jainism religion. He was a liberal and knowledgeable soul who achieved refinement and impeccability through deep meditation. 

He was born as a Human being and possessed the qualities of a Human God. The Birthday of Saint-Mahavir does not really focus on glittery show offs rather formalize this festival as a quiet celebration with respect to their humble saint. As per the Mythology and History, he attained Salvation (Moksha) at the age of 72. He always believed in- Every Soul is in itself absolutely omniscient and blissful does not come from Outside and spread a Message to Mankind - Birth is Nothing and that Karma is everything and on the Destruction of Karma, Future happiness depends.
