Lord Shiva’s Favorite abode is- Kedarnath temple. Kedarnath Dham is one of the religious and important Hindu pilgrimage sites in Northern India. Nestled on the bank of Mandakini River at a total height of 3584 meters just above the sea level. In ancient times, rishis and sages introduced this sacred notable place as- KedarKhand”. Kedarnath Dham is a noteworthy temple for the ardent devotees of Lord-Shiva and is one of the revered pilgrimages of Char Dham. Panch Kedar in Uttarakhand is also famed as- Jyotirlingam among the 12 jyotirlingams of Lord Shiva in India. One should surely visit this sacred Pilgrimage to get immense blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess- Parvati. The Best Month to visit are-April/May and Oct/Nov and it is remained open only for a limited span of time between the end of April- Akshaya Tritriya and Kartik Purnima due to extreme climate conditions. Gourikund is the starting point of the Journey towards Kedarnath. Kedarnath Dham is basically the Trekking spot for the tourers that can be outstretched from distinct directions.
Kedarnath Dham : The historical name of Kedarnath region is “KedarKhand” and it is the most remote site among all four Char Dham shrines. There is an interesting Story behind the Town and its temple. According to Shiva Puranas, the five Pandava brothers did a major penance in Kedarnath to please Lord Shiva and at the same place five Pandavas visited after defeating & killing their cousin brothers (Kauravas) to get purified from the sins. Legends hold it, In Kedarnath Temple premises, Goddess Parvati worshipped and penanced hard to Kedareshwara for getting unite with Lord Shiva and to become Ardhanareeswarara (half Shiva and half Parvati-a personification of Lord Shiva).

How To Reach Kedarnath

Once can reach this sacred abode by roadways buses that are easily accessible from Uttarkashi, Chamba, New Tehri, Tilwar, Agastyamuni, Chandrapuri, Guptkashi, Sonprayag and Gourikund. However, Rudraprayag can only be visited while returning from Badrinath Dham as this cannot be reached whilst you are on the way to Kedarnath Dham. You can also travel via Srinagar to the divine destination and other road goes to Sri Badrinath Dham. The nearest Railway station is at Rishikesh, 225 Kms. And the closest Airport to the Dham is- Jolly Grant, Dehradun which is 240 Kilometers.
